Folded with Love
Folded with Love turns old books into fascinating pieces of art adding a new dimension to literature and giving discarded and once loved books a completely new lease of life.
Initially, the story began with some basic creations of lantern style ornaments made from old books that had been picked up from a local bookstore. This evolved into creating Hearts and Butterflies as well as some imaginative words within the books, so a way to personalise and treasure a book as a sculpture was born.
All the pages of the book are kept intact with all work created from page folding only. It is essential for Folded with Love creations to retain elements of their original antiquity hence there is absolutely no removal or page cutting involved.
After creating a few sculptures and messing around with ideas, one winters evening a friend saw the creations I had so far made. She made a fly away comment, 'that would look great as a lamp base' and the whole concept grew from there!................so a big thank you Jo.
Eventually, after a few experiments, I came up with a few concepts that worked and today I feel very proud of the achievements so far - to this day I haven't located anything else similar on the market.
From making the lamp bases my work has now moved onto include bespoke lampshades, which are all made to order.
I make all my items to order, folding each page with love, and where possible, tailor items using a specific book that holds a special place with the recipient. Furthermore, my lampshades are made to the clients specification, particularly the shades that show the longitude and latitude points of a special place - a spot where you first met; got engaged; honeymooned......the list is endless.
